A meticulous weekly survey of Trap Grounds Slow Worms and Grass Snakes was conducted by two Friends of the TG from the beginning of April to the end of September 2020. The six-month recorded total was 362 Slow Worms (overall average: 10 per mat) and 2 Grass Snakes. The most productive day was in the w/c 14 July. The most productive site was Sycamore Glade east (average: 17 per mat).
For comparison, a weekly survey in 2017 produced an overall total of 335 Slow Worms, with an average of 12 per mat. (But there were fewer mats: 27, as opposed to 36.) The only disappointment in 2020 was the smaller number of Grass Snakes (only 2 records, compared with 12 in 2017).
