News / After-School Environment Club: end-of-year report
Posted on 21st July, 2012
We have helped teachers at the local school of St Philip and St James to run a weekly after-school environment club for children aged 7—10. This has involved visits to the Trap Grounds to track and identify animal prints; mapping birds’ nests; planting saplings; building shelters for small mammals and reptiles; making a rain gauge, a worm observatory, and bird feeders out of recycled materials; investigating clouds; learning to use binoculars for bird watching; photographing and drawing plants and insects; and — most popular of all — collecting specimens of plants and invertebrate life to study under microscopes in the classroom. Volunteers are always welcome: please send us an email (via the Contacts page, above).
